Abstract

This StoryMap is based on a study Bucknell University students conducted with the goal to better understand the relationship between Shamokin Creek and the city of Shamokin, Pennsylvania. By talking to local residents, activists, and many others, the storymap shares a range of opinions on the Coal Era, how it has impacted Shamokin and its landscape today, and potential ways to remediate problems.

"The Socioeconomic and Environmental Restoration of Shamokin" storymap was produced by students an Environmental Ethnography course taught by Prof. John Favini in partnership with the Shamokin Creek Restoration Alliance. Janine Glathar of Bucknell's Digital Pedagogy and Scholarship provided technical expertise and support in the development of the story map. Shaunna Barnhart of the Center for Sustainability and the Environment provided support in project development and site visits through the Center's Coal Region Field Station.
